How to Conquer Your Insecurity in Your Love Life

How to Conquer Your Insecurity in Your Love Life

When life hands you lemons, don’t just make lemonades. Make yourself a lemonade cocktail.

Have you been feeling a little insecure in your love life? Things are going well – or not – and you can’t seem to shake the feeling off?

Whether you’re just in the dating scene or already in a relationship, feeling insecure is something you’re bound to experience. Whether you are just looking for a quick hookup on a classified such as skip the games or whether you are seeking something deeper, it’s something you can expect and prepare for. Being equipped with the right tools will make your journey safer and more pleasant.

For a fact, I’ve been there and it wasn’t a happy place. You’re probably in a similar situation and you want out. Well, you’re in luck. Here are 7 ways to help you conquer your insecurity.

1. Don’t Stress Over it

Feeling insecure is uneasy. Stressing about it only compounds its negative effect on you. Take a deep breath and allow yourself to relax. This is something we all go through – even the most composed individuals. And no it’s not the end of the world; neither is it the end of yours.

2. Get a New Perspective

When you are insecure, you are the only one who sees it. It’s invisible to everybody else – except a few that know you in and out. And as it’s an overwhelming feeling, we most times have a one-sided view of it. The six you see is a nine to someone else. Looking at our insecurity through another’s perspective could help us see it with better understanding.

3. Understand Why It’s there

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing occurs out of the blue. The same goes for your feelings of insecurity. Figuring the root cause of your situation will go a long way in straightening things out for you – and your relationship. Think to a time in your past that was a source of self-doubt. Or maybe it’s a recent event that’s got you on your toes.

4. Talk to Someone about It

I’m a strong believer in having a support group – even if I hate the thought of it. This thing is we all want to be strong and feel strong. But encountering unexpected things that knock us off our feet are bitter reminders of the contrary. In our attempt to remain on top of our game, we lie to ourselves and believe we’ve got it all under control. But that only gets us so far.

Letting other people in is never a sign of weakness. It’s, rather, a sign that you’re strong enough to confined in someone.

5. Keep Calm and Reconnect with Yourself

Often, our feelings of insecurity stem from a disconnection from ourselves – a loss of self-awareness. In romantic relationships with our significant others, we meld into “a whole.” We pretty much become inseparable. Not that it’s a bad thing. In fact, it’s wonderful.

What happens is we forget the unique individuals that we are. And over time, this can take its toll on us. As a remedy, we can do things that excite us; dust off some of the passions locked up in our closets. Not only will this make you feel better, but it will be beneficial for your love life.

6. Lend a Help to Someone

During moments of insecurity, we wallow in our self-pity. This makes it harder to see things differently. But studies have shown there are benefits for showing care and giving others help. Benefits such as increased wellbeing and a sense of purpose. It also helps you get out of your head, which is a win-win everybody.

7. Use It to Your Advantage

There are always two sides to a coin and attitude is everything. Insecurity, though it comes with its woes, can be a blessing in disguise – as long as you know how to use it. Take your insecurity as a call from the Universe to make a positive change in your life.

Conclusion

Will all that said, you have two options. You can pick up where you left off or you can switch up your situation. I’m sure you’ll stick with the latter. While you are at it, enjoy your lemonade cocktail.
